Sexually transmitted infections (STI) are significant concerns which have taken over the world affecting millions of people. STI is no hidden matter, it’s awareness is raised time and again. However it comes with various misconceptions.
STIs are infections which are transferred through sexual contact , either vaginal, anal or oral sex. There are even certain sources of spreading STIs such as childbirth, and shared needles. These are caused by bacteria, viruses and parasites.

- Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV-1 & HSV-2)

Most of these types of STIs go asymptomatic however there are a few cases in which we can notice some symptoms, such as :
- Unusual discharge from genitals
- Pain or burning sensation during urination
- Genital soreness or blisters
- Pelvic or lower abdominal pain
- Pain during intercourse
- unexplained cold-like symptoms
STIs are preventable. There are various ways to do so, such as :
- Using protection during sexual activity
- getting regularly tested
- Getting vaccinated against HPV
- Having an open communication with sexual partner/s
- Lower the number of sexual partners
- Be mindful while using sharp objects/needles
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are a serious concern worldwide. It can be prevented and managed if you have proper awareness and care. Understand the symptoms, causes and preventive measures and take a step towards spreading awareness.
